We might not have been able to get anything else to grow this year with much success, but by God, we've got pumpkins. Rogue pumpkins that sprouted of their own volition from the previous owner's target practice. They came up all over the backyard so I transplanted a few and now we have a whole lotta pumpkins. Nine sit on the kitchen table right now.
In other news, the bear (or a bear) has returned and showed up on the game camera a few days ago. Still don't know how I feel about this. It makes me a little more nervous given that this is their annual "fattening up for winter" season. Back to making obnoxious amounts of noise when I go outside.
It has cooled off considerably in the last week. The windows and doors are open, we've turned off the air for the first time in months, and I can see my breath in the mornings. We spent Labor Day weekend doing stuff around the house and after 16 years of marriage, we finally built a headboard. I am thrilled. We made it out of an old picnic table and it is ridiculous how happy it makes me.
We are also awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Irma. The path continues to shift westward but we are still being warned that we might get a lot of wind and rain. My heart is with those being directly impacted by this one and for those in Texas. I put a lot of faith in the organization, Convoy of Hope, to do good work during times like this. I saw the good they did firsthand. You can donate directly at www.convoyofhope.org/ .
Here's hoping you're having a happy and solid weekend.
